Planning: The Striped Effect

My latest obsession = BOLD Black and white stripes.

What do I love about it?

  1. It's VERY eye catching
  2. You can add any color with it and it accents it VERY well
  3. A little bit of stripes goes a long way and still makes an impact
  4. It's magic... put it on (an object) and immediately adds length and width  (not always a positive when it comes to horizontal striped clothing though)
  5. Did I mention it is VERY eye catching

So what do you think? Too much for you or right up your alley? I will admit... it's ALLOT, and not for the faint at heart. But as I mentioned before, if you love bold stripes but your not ready to fully commit, see #3 above: "a little bit of stripes goes a long way".  If you feel like it might be for you, here are some ways to consider infusing this awesomely amazingly beautiful design into your wedding, for the Bold AND the Bashful

  • Bold: Use a striped table cover... Bashful: Use a solid color table cover with a black and white striped linen runner
  • Bold: Wear a broad striped belt with a striped ribbon flower fascinator...Bashful: Wrap your bouquet with striped ribbon
  • Bold: Drape the ceiling of your reception tent with black and white fabric...Bashful: Use a striped dinner napkin and let it hang over the side of the table but under your charger
  • Bold: Add stripes to your outdoor ceremony by alternating black and white lawn or chiavari chairs...Bashful: Have your stationary designer add a subtle stripe to the ceremony program and leave one on alternating chairs
  • Bold: Striped bow or neck ties...Bashful: Striped cuff links
  • Bold: Striped flower girl dress (solid on the top and striped from the waist down)...Bashful: Striped ponytail ribbon

It's your wedding, do it how you want to. Either stand waaaaay out or stand out a little, but whatever you do...STAND OUT!

SO...are you Bold or Cautious?

Planning: Wrap with Burlap

I have always fancied burlap table covers for events. So much so that I am using it for an upcoming styled shoot. But did you know burlap can be used in other things:

Invitations:

Bows:

Favor Bags:

Cake Decor:

You will mostly find burlap in a natural color but this chic material can be found in many other colors too:

Burlap is typically a staple for many country/shabby chic affairs. But if you love it like I do but your not committed to the rustic country feel, step it up a notch. Skip the lace, mason jars, yarn and meadow flowers. Run...don't walk to more modern chic pieces. Like metal balls, mirrored vases and lush flowers. You don't need to fully commit to a theme to used a staple that you like. Make it your own by choosing your adornments carefully.

How do you feel about burlap?

Planning: An Amenity for the Rest of the Room

Have you considered providing your guests with a amenity basket for ladies and men's Restroom?  In case this is on your agenda, here are some items to consider for it:

Courtesy of BizBash

Lotion/Gel:

  • Pretty scented one for the ladies room & a more manly type for the men's room
  • Skin softening type of lotion
  • Antibacterial Gel
Sweets:
  • Gum
  • TIc Tac
  • Peppermint
Grooming/Beauty:
  • Nail file
  • Nail cutter
  • Clear nail polish ( can double to fix those nasty pantyhose runs)
  • Kleenex Tissues
  • Hair Pins
  • Lint Brush
  • Safety Pins
  • Body Spray (Male & Female)
  • Hair spray/Gel

Other:

  • Sewing kit
  • Condoms (we are all adults right)
  • Tampons / Panty liners / Pads
  • Dental Floss
  • GasX / Antacids / Aspirin
  • Candles
  • Shout Wipes
What's important to remember is do not go overboard to buying every little thing you kinda sorta maybe think you need. This is an additional expense and you have to consider your budget when planning this amenity. Keep it simple, and shop from your local drug store mini bins to get most of these items. And for your pretty smelling things, I'd try Bath and Body Works, there is always a sale, always a special and always a coupon. To take it up a notch, try personalizing your packaging with custom labels or wrapping items with a fabric or paper that compliments your event decor.

So, is this something that you are considering for your event?
