A Natural High

If you follow me on Twitter you will know that on Monday September 28, 2009 I had the pleasure of attending the Maxwell concert in Madison Square Garden. Well, ladies the man did NOT disappoint. He was singing his heart out and he made every lady in the place wish there was a man on her arm that night (yours truly included). There is just something about the man and his music that makes me proud to be a product of Love and a Believer in Love. So in honor of my natural Maxwell high, I dedicate this song to all my fellow believers in Love.

Here's hoping you are fortunate to have the one you Love. Enjoy!!!

Planning: From 10 to 100...These Are My Confessions

CONGRATULATIONS to meeeeeee on my 100th post!!!! My little fledgling blog has reached a milestone (in my eyes). I rejoice because when I started my blog I wasn't sure how I was going to get through 10 posts let alone 100. And now here I am choc full o'many more posts to come.

So to commemorate my milestone (again in my eyes) I decided to provide you with some fun-facts & information about me that you may or may not have known.

1. My first name is Camille; not June

2. I was born in Jamaica WI, and currently live in Brooklyn, NY (big-up Brooklyn)

3. I love the color Chartreuse

4. I love reggae (go figure) and Soca music

5. I love roller coasters but would have to think twice about going back on Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventures in NJ

6. I have a very loud and close family and I LOVE IT!!!

7. I believe a kiss IS worth a thousand words

8. My favorite cartoon movie is Mulan (She was a powerful stubborn chick)

9. I am an April born Taurus, and yes I can be very stubborn

10. Love Mac make-up (chestnut lip liner and Viva Glam V lipglass is essential)

11. I love sparkle

12. Color makes me happy

13. I am a better baker than I am cooker

14. I can finish a pack of gum in a day, more like a couple hours

15. I am not afraid to get my hands dirty

16. I like my steak well done. Please don't try to sell me on medium well

17. I was a high school basketball cheerleader (and still have allot of rah rah rah in me)

18. A JunePlumm (or better yet juneplum) is one of my favorite fruits in JA. It is a chartreuse-y color. I decided to add the extra "m" because my last name is Plummer and I wanted it to be a bit more personal.

19. I decided to start my business because 1) I grew tired of hearing my friends, family, co-workers and colleagues tell me I should . 2) I was tired of attending weddings and looking at all the details and re-working it in my head. 3) I was a bridal attendant and the contracted wedding planner was horrible (yeah I said it). I actually had to step in and manage some of her responsibilities so my friend would still have an opportunity to enjoy her wedding.

20. I love the look of excitement on the face of a happy client (it's why JunePlumm Events exists)

21. My favorite part of a wedding is during the ceremony when the groom extends his hand to the bride to help her to her position right next to him at the alter. There is something very chivalrous about it to me.

22. I love orchids. Cybidiums and phalaenopsis are my faves

23. I love pasta

24. I always question if I am good enough to make it this business but trust in the Lord to see me through all of my fears

25. I am not afraid to laugh out loud.

Hopefully you know me a little better today than you did yesterday and are still interested in seeing what tomorrow brings through the eyes of Camille Plummer of JunePlumm Events. I continue to feel blessed that you choose to take this journey with me.

See you over at blog post 101.

Planning: The "Other" Flower

Don't pass on carnations just yet. The fact that they are inexpensive should be a good enough reason for you to give it second look...okay maybe a third look. My point is, it doesn't have to just be the "cheap" flower. When arranged correctly they can be a welcomed addition to your event. Take a look at these inspirations below:

Now that you have taken another look at Carnations, would you use it in your event?

Pretty Little Things: Paper Cuts

In my post on "Too Cool for Skool", I touched upon one of the trends Brides's New York says will soon make a significant mark on the industry. well, I couldn't' miss this opportunity to expand on these accessories. Papecuts are HANDMADE, HAND CUTout's on paper, soft and delicate rice paper. ..Yes, I said HAND MADE and HAND CUT.

Take a look at these found on Etsy (LOVE Etsy) courtesy of papercutdiecut:

Aren't they amazing. I have stared at them time and time again and would personally love to shake the hand of the person with the patience to hand cut these. I can't wait to incorporate these into one of my events.

Planning: Too Cool for Skool...Part 3

We covered Old Skool and New Skool, now for the final part to this trilogy is Too Cool for Skool.
Here is Brides New York's lists as the Next Big Thing to hit the mainstream:

All White Bridal Party: Agreed This bridal party will look very clean, neat and crisp.

Tangerine/Cobalt Color Scheme: Agreed, This is a powerhouse combo. Great for someone that loves a combustion of color.

Birdcage Veils: Should have been New Skool. These fabulous accessories are making a huge splash in weddings, and every day events. Are you game to wear the heck out of one?

Veggie Centerpieces: Agreed. Now we are not talking about taking the whole farmers market and sticking it in the middle of your centerpiece. What is being referenced is including veggies in the midst of your floral centerpiece to not only give it a splash of color but also texture.

Multiple Wedding Cakes: Agreed, but this too is a bit New Skool. Multiple wedding cakes have been gracing weddings for a bit now. But it hasn't had that big boom as yet that we are seeing in the Candy Stations. But hang tight, it is about to explode

Rented Jukebox At the Reception: Agreed

Gruner Veltliner: Agreed. If you are a wine drinker this Austrian white grape wine is one to check out.

Create Your Own Mojito Bar: Agreed, This will pick up where the signature drinks is leaving off.

Gospel Choir At The Ceremony: Agreed, now some of you might be saying that your family has been doing this for years. Well yours might, but not hers. I hope this does catch on. There is a magical feeling when you are serenaded by the lively sounds of a gospel choir. No snoozing at this ceremony.

Bright Colorful Heels Under The Wedding Gown: This too should have been New Skool. Ladies have been stepping outside the white shoe box for a minute now. But I have a feeling this too has some more catching on to do.

PaperCuts: Agreed, this are images cut out of paper by hand or knife. LOVE IT!!! How awesome would it be to have papercut monograms or table numbers.
So what did you think? Do you agree or disagree with this list. Do you have any trends that you would add to the Old Skool, Now Skool or Too Cool for Skool list?

Planning: New Skool...Part 2

We covered the Old Skool now let's take a look at what Brides New York says is New Skool, trends that are taking on the mainstream by any means necessary.

Patterned Bridesmaids Dresses: Agreed and might I add LOVE IT. I am a huge lover of a bold patterned dress with a flattering feminine cut. It's fun, classy and a great way to put some pizzaz into your bridal party.

Portrait Stations: Agreed. What A great way to capture all your guests.

Silhouettes: Agreed. You can use this trend in your favors, your stationary, in your room decor, in just about anything.

Turquoise/Red Combo: Agreed. A very vibrant color combination. Try it before it becomes old skool:)

Pearlescent Paper: Agreed. A little...okay maybe allot... of glitz goes a long way, why not have some glitz in your paper too. My favorite are brown/bronze hues.

Old Fashion Lawn Games: Agreed. Great for outdoor weddings to give your guests an opportunity to partake in a fun and lite sporty event

Candy Buffets: Eh, I still love the candy buffets but I think this trend might be on the verge of aging

Mariachi Bands: Agreed... Ole'

Engagement Shoots: Agreed. This has been around for a while but is still hottt enough to stay out of the Old Skool zone. This is also a great way to capture your love in photo. Use them as eye candy at your wedding for your guests to peruse during cocktail hour or even in your reception.

Are you using any of these trends in your upcoming wedding or event?

Planning: The Old Skool...Part 1

While on my mini break that became an extended vaca (my bad) I started catching up on some of my bridal mags and literature. I became engrossed in the fall/winter issue of Brides New York, particularly an article on trends. It lists, what is becoming old skool, new skool and too cool for skool. I want to share the list with you but I will break it into 3 posts. Don’t want to inundate you with TMI (well not all at once at least).
Beginning with the old skool (trends that need to be retired), according to Brides New York, these trends will soon have maxed out on their 15 minutes of fame:

Eco-Everything: Not sure I agree with the fact that it is getting outdated just yet. We still need to be aware of the care and maintenance of our planet in all aspects of our lives.

Wedding Tchotchkes: Agreed. Stop wasting time with doohickeys, whatchamacallits and thingamajigs. It’s not worth the money.

Crazy Brides aka Bridezillas. Agreed. Do you really think it is cute to be referred to as a crazy lunatic who should be institutionalized…really?

Choreographed Group Dancing: Not Agreed. I agree it no longer holds it’s “surprise” factor. But who wouldn’t love to see a choreographed routine featuring hubby in front of 150 of his closest friends who knows he couldn’t dance on beat if you paid him…priceless . The act of him giving it a good faith effort to entertain his guests is enough to keep me interested…for now at least

Colored Sashes: On the fence on this one. I feel if it is used correctly, it can still be a welcomed burst of color.

Pink/Brown: ahhhm okay, not sure this was an "in" trend, but if it was then it is time to move on.

Damask: I completely agree that it is a popular trend, however I am not ready to see this go away just yet.

"At Last": I completely Agree. Although I love this song, it has become a bit over-popularized. But those of you looking to waltz down the aisle or dance your first dance to this song don’t give up yet, give it a minute or two and it will be "new" again.

Pick-up skirts: Agreed... next
Tomorrow, New Skool

Planning: This Concludes Our Evening...

Skip the rice and try turning your Exit into a Grand EXIT by incorporating one of these send-offs at your event:

Ribbon Wands
No fuss, no mess, no clean-up just a little bit of work on the arms but overall very sweet and whimsical. Just try not to slap anyone in the face with the ribbons or the wands

Bubbles
What a way to make you feel like a kid again. Blowing bubbles at a send-off is a very popular occurrence in today's weddings. One because it is very cost efficient as well as a great way to make you feel like a kid again. But please, instruct blowers to stay away from blowing in your face and directly on garments. Bubbles are mainly soap and water and not supposed to cause stains but...some have been know to leave a ring or two.

Sparklers
Kind of a slow burning firework that emits color and sparkles galor. What a ways to exit your reception like having your very own personal sparkler show. CAUTION: please please please, I would prefer the young'ens not handle sparklers. Yes it is pretty and they likey, but an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. Although not terribly common, they can ignite clothing and tinge the skin so be careful.

Rose Petals / Confetti
Both confetti and rose petals are given to the guests to toss at you as you exit. Of the two, rose petals are far more luxurious and a lot less messy than the confetti. The edge the confetti has is in cost. If you have to choose between the two, in my opinion nothing beats rose petals. After all you are the King and Queen of the ball and the feet of Royalty must never touch the ground. Note: the clean-up for both can be daunting (especially the confetti). I also suggest using real petals as apposed to artificial options. I would hate for someone to slip on the artificial petals as it is thrown on a ground with no traction.

Butterflies
Releasing butterflies at the conclusion of your nuptials ads a very special and symbolic touch to your wedding. A butterfly represent transformation and change. And since you have just transformed from single life into married life, the release of the butterfly will represent your flight into your new life as husband and wife. This option is spectacular for outdoor weddings.

With all the possibilities that exists to guarantee you a grand exit, your biggest obstacle is choosing one option . To make your decision, your best guide is to choose that best send-off complimentary to your style, time of day and location of the event.

What was your grand exit at you or your clients event?
